What to expect when a pest control expert comes to your premises

Our latest blog post takes a look at what you can broadly expect from a visit from your Rentokil pest control expert, and what professional pest control services should look like.

Like any good service, a visit from a Rentokil technician starts with a friendly, approachable face and a matching personality. Our technicians are trained to ensure they make pest control less stressful for you by communicating and by being transparent with you regarding any issues that may come up on site.

Whenever I go out with the service team I coach them to have what I call a HOT policy. I know that sounds weird, but it is an acronym for remembering to be Honest, Open, and Transparent with the people they deal with on a daily basis.

What to expect from an expert pest control service provider:

  • Scheduling and planning

Services all start with scheduling and planning. Once your service has been scheduled with the service planning team, this triggers a ‘new visit’ on our technicians’ PDAs.

  • Easily recognisable

Our technicians drive branded vehicles and have an easily identifiable uniform, so you’ll know when they arrive on site. All services are completed in the PPE that is required by each product label and your site requirements.

What to expect on arrival when a pest control technician arrives at your premises:

Upon arrival at your premises, the technician will check in with the you, the site manager or the designated health and safety officer on site. This check-in is part of the service process to ensure that you are fully aware of the service that is going to be conducted on your premises.

This is also an opportunity for you to notify the technician of any concerns you might have noted recently. This step is important to us because we want to ensure that all concerns are met with the proper amount of attention.

  • Site inspections

Before we start servicing, our technicians are required to do a full site inspection to assess the premises. This step is really important because the technician needs to really understand the premises and the activity on-site before placing any pesticides, rodenticides, etc.

By properly assessing the premises and the specific pest control issues on site, our technicians can ensure that services are conducted in alignment with the safety procedures required on your site and targeted to meet the specific pest at the correct point in its lifecycle and habitat.

  • Treatment notes, reporting and recommendations

Once our technicians have conducted their service, they make treatment notes on the service report to document the quantity of chemicals utilised on the premises. The service report also contains any recommendations that require your attention on-site. For example, if there are any structural concerns that may contribute to pest activity, or housekeeping and cleaning recommendations, these will be brought to your attention.

These recommendations are important as they allow you to mitigate pest problems that may arise in the future, or to correct any active issues that are on site. Once the service and the report are completed, the technician will require your signature to complete the visit on the PDA. This signature is necessary to ensure that you are aware that the technician was on-site and that you are satisfied with the service they have conducted.

The technician should also make you aware if any activity was noted during the visit. Once the treatment report is signed you will have a copy of the report emailed to you so that you can view the details of that service. This is also your opportunity to ask the technician to walk you through the recommendations. They’ll be more than happy to explain to you why certain recommendations are made and the contribution they make to pest management.

Technicians are there to assist you with your pest management practices by acknowledging your concerns and giving you advice to mitigate issues in the future.

  • Supervisors on site

When a supervisor visits your site he’s there to check on the treatment that is being conducted by the technician, and to assess whether it’s the best method of managing pest control issues on your site.

Technicians report to their supervisors when there are sites with high activity and they require some assistance on how to manage the pest issue. Supervisors are not only there to check on their technicians, but also to ensure that our customers are happy with both the service being provided and the technician, and to ensure clear lines of communication exist between customers and the service team.
