Choosing a service provider can be hard, and with many providers wanting customers to sign a two year contract, we understand that before you make that sort of commitment you need to be sure that it’s a match made in heaven.
So we’ve put together a 10 question checklist for anyone thinking of entering into a relationship – casual or long-term – with Rentokil, so that you can evaluate whether we’re the pest control provider of your dreams.
Answer our yes/no checklist to establish whether Rentokil is the right fit for you:
Are you in the market for a long-term relationship?
Yes: We believe that truly effective pest control can only be achieved through a partnership between us and our customers. Depending on the nature of your business and the pest problems you are experiencing, this is usually best achieved through a longer-term partnership.
No: Sometimes pest problems can be sorted out on a short-term (or what we call “jobbing” basis), especially if you are looking for pest control solutions for your home, rather than your business. It all depends on your specific needs. We’ll tailor a solution to fit your individual requirements.
Is working with a reputable brand important to you?
Yes: Rentokil is one of the oldest pest control companies in the business, and in many places the name Rentokil is synonymous with pest control . We have over a 100 years international experience, and over 50 years experience in the South African marketplace.
No: There are plenty of smaller brands out there that may be able to solve your pest control problems in the short term. Just make sure you ask the right questions to ensure that they are using safe and environmentally responsible practices and products.
Is protecting the health and safety of your colleagues or family important to you?
Yes: Good, because it’s our number one priority! Rentokil invests a large amount of time and money into ensuring that both our colleagues and customers are safe.
Never forget that pest control is a business that utilizes potentially dangerous chemicals, and that every pest control service needs to be performed in a careful and controlled manner, by a trained professional using the correct personal protective equipment (PPE). When you choose a provider, they should be able to demonstrate the measures they take to ensure the safety of both your colleagues and their employees.
No: Then you’re probably not the right customer for us either.
Are you looking for a pest control provider who is registered with South African Pest Control Association and whose technicians are registered with the Department of Agriculture?
Yes: Rentokil is a leading member of SAPCA. All our technicians are registered with the Department of Agriculture, and are provided with extensive and intensive technical training.
No: See question 2. There are plenty of smaller brands out there that may not take registration with the industry body seriously, and who may still be able to solve your pest control problems in the short term. But if their technicians are not registered with the Department of Agriculture, it means they have not completed any registered pest control training in the safe use of chemicals and pesticides.
Does your perfect match adhere to the Department of Agriculture’s approved product list?
Yes: Great! Rentokil only uses products that have been approved by the Department of Agriculture and our International Technical Director in the UK. This means that you can be guaranteed that we are using the safest and most environmentally friendly product available.
No: Then your perfect match may not be so perfect: they’ll be putting the health and safety of you, your colleagues or family at risk.
Are you looking for a provider that offers a paperless solution to pest control management?
Yes: Then we have the answer for you: my Rentokil, our unique, online pest management system.
No: We get it, change is hard and some people like a more traditional approach. You’ll still see your technician on site, and we offer full training for every myRentokil customer so that you know how to access your information quickly and easily, from any location.
Is passing your audits important to you:
Yes: We know that passing audits is crucial, because even the smallest infraction can result in a failing score that could see your business having to halt operations for an extended period of time, and consequently damaging the bottom line. As global leaders in the pest control industry, Rentokil forms close partnerships with our customers as well as auditing and regulatory bodies, including the GFSI, AIB, YUM and BRC Global Standard to ensure that we are abreast of the latest audit standard changes and internal audit requirements to best assist our customers.
No: Then you probably don’t get audited.
Are you looking for a provider who invests in ongoing Research and Development?
Yes: We’ve been focusing on science and innovation since 1925. Our Global Research and Development centre: The Power Centre is at the forefront of pest control innovation and technology; creating, prototyping and testing the latest pest control solutions to support businesses across the globe.
Home to one of the largest collections of pest insects in Europe, The Power Centre showcases our commitment to ongoing research, development and innovation. We’ve developed – amongst other things – the first LED electronic fly killer, non-toxic heat treatments, and digital pest control, and received the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation in 2018.
No: Without research and development we’d all still be using DDT, so we think R&D is pretty important. Just remember that if you do choose a provider who doesn’t keep up to date with industry trends and changes, they may be using old products that are no longer effective. Pests build up resistance to insecticides, which is one of the main reasons ongoing research and development is so important for a truly effective pest control service.
Is protecting the environment important to you when choosing a pest control provider?
Yes: Oh good, because we take our responsibility to the environment very seriously. Rentokil technicians are skilled in using alternative techniques to control pests, and will always utilise the safest, most appropriate solution for the problem at hand . Our approach is to always restore the balance in the environment and use the quickest, most effective method to eliminate infestations.
No: Some people just want to watch the world burn… No seriously, we really think this something that everyone should be prioritising these days.
Would you like your pest control provider to be able to provide specialist services such as fumigation?
Yes: Then once again, Rentokil has what you are looking for. We offer a range of specialist services that include fumigation, bird control, heat treatments and termite control. We also offer Specialist disinfection services to protect your business from the risks of Coronavirus, as well as pest borne diseases.
No: Not everyone has a need for such specialist services. We are also the experts in those everyday pests that plague us throughout the year, such as rats, cockroaches and flies. You can download our seasonal guide to pests to keep abreast of what these might be.
