Since our South African lockdown started on the 27th of March we’ve had 83 days of regulations, nationally eased through 3 risk-related stages. As an essential services provider, Rentokil had the privilege of being able to continue to support our customers’ pest control requirements during lockdown, and has also been able to further enhance our customer support with the introduction of our Specialist Disinfection Service.

In anticipation of the move from Level 3 lockdown to Advanced Level 3 (as announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa last night) we wanted to share a quick overview of our lockdown-related blogs. These blogs contain information we believe you’ll find valuable as your business transitions to Advanced Level 3 protocols.

1. Three things to consider before re-opening your business:

We all know the saying “while the cat’s away the mice will play”. During the COVID-19 lockdown period, these words have never been more true. Literally true! Lockdown restrictions have given pests the opportunity to flourish in temporarily abandoned work spaces undisturbed.

How bad could a rat infestation really be? Learn more about rapid rat population growth and the diseases rats spread.

93% of employers are worried about ensuring that workplace conditions and policies comply with applicable health and safety regulations for re-opening, according to recent surveys. We ask you to consider;

  1. Has your workplace been disinfected to ensure optimal hygiene?
  2. Has your building been proofed against pest infestations?
  3. Do you have pest control procedures in place to eliminate or prevent pest problems?

2. Lockdown: The Top 4 Pest Risks to Empty Buildings (Part 1 and Part 2)

These 2 informative blogs focus on the top 4 pests that are known to cause the most damage to your premises. Learn more about rodents, cockroaches, flies and birds and the best ways to protect your business from these pests.

As a bonus, you can also have a look at “What’s waiting for you at the office” where we look at the damage termites can cause.

3. On lockdown? No problem with myRentokil

From the information above, I’m sure you’ll agree that pest infestations are a big risk for businesses: they damage stock, disrupt operations and pose a major threat to health, safety and compliance.

In this blog, we would like to introduce you to Rentokil’s digital pest management tool: myRentokil.  It’s an online portal that allows customers to access their pest control data and then monitor, measure, record and report emerging pest issues across multiple locations.  Some of the features of myRentokil include;

  • Real-time information 24/7 – even on lockdown
  • Pest control trends and automated custom reporting
  • Pest control recommendations
  • Mitigating the risk of infestation
  • Increased efficiency and audit compliance

4. What’s happening in your server room while you aren’t there?

Your IT server room is arguably the most important room in your office building, and has to be treated as a high security area. Because of the business critical systems and information stored on your servers, this area needs to be out of bounds for all kinds of intruders – including pests. In this blog, we look at ways of minimising pest infestations.

I joined Rentokil Initial South Africa in 2004 as the PA to the MD, and after 6 months maternity leave I re-joined the Company in 2009 as the Marketing Co-ordinator for Rentokil. I'm now the Marketing Communication Manager for Rentokil Initial. I'm still terrified of cockroaches (Americana's only!) but the rest of the creepy crawlies we deal with don't really bug me (see what I did there?), so I guess I'm in the right industry! I am passionate about what we do here at Rentokil Initial and also write for our Hygiene Blog, which can be found at www.initial.co.za. Life outside of Rentokil mostly revolves around my daughter, who has just turned nine and my husband (who’s a bit older). I love living in Cape Town and wouldn’t trade living here for anywhere else in the world.
